[He had made several attempts at contacting her in the weeks after his escape from imprisonment, but eventually grew tired of the empty pang of disappointment that echoed more loudly with each failure. The question of when she would come back has run through his mind day after day. Quickly, he's realizing he needs her (a friend, someone) now more than ever. He's a mess, and trying not to be, but it doesn't work like that. So he opens the journal once more.]

Kaori? Are you there? Can you hear this? [He'll wait, forcing down a swell of timid hope.]

[Kaori had been playing with some blades of grass outside, the magical book that had appeared beside her when she woke up this morning flat on the ground. Though she didn't quite understand how to use it yet, it was nice to hear people talk and all sorts of fun stuff. But a lot of what she had heard over the past few days had also been scary.

Not that hearing her name being called out was scary, but it was definitely unexpected! Peeking into the frame she'll pick it up, wondering just who it could be.] Hello...?

[...this is neither of the two expected results. Except for the disappointment: he was half-prepared for that.]

...Who are you? [But there's something...familiar about...]

My name is Kaori. [Tilting her head to the side, she continues to look curiously at the picture of Mithos in the tiny frame. He was certainly pretty...]

You called me, mister?

[...What? She's--]

[His instinct is to hear lies; distrust is always best, even with a child. But...she does look like...]

[...She's back. A lot younger, but here.]

Yes...I did. [.........This is...odd. How should he explain?]

Oh! [A smile lights up her face, always happy for someone new to talk to. He seemed okay, at least.]

Are you lost?

I'm not lost. [Not in the literal sense. He knows where he is; everything else is what raises so many uncertainties and leaves him wondering where to go.]

I just... [wanted to know where you were. Hm.] My name is Mithos.

Mithos...? [She hadn't met him last time she was here, nor had she heard of him. But he wanted to talk to her, right?]

How do you know my name, Mister Mithos? Are you Frey's friend?

[A familiar knot clenches inside him: anger, hatred, disgust, distrust. Of course the human had found her and taken advantage of her willingness to trust. She didn't know any better yet.]

I know him. [his tone betrays nothing of the loathing he holds for Frey.] ...You don't have to call me 'mister', you know.

I don't...? I guess that's good! [Her parents had taught her to be polite to people she didn't know very well.]

So how do you know my name? Do you want to be friends, too?

I know your name because Frey told me about you. [He feels like he shouldn't tell her that he knows her when she's older. That could get sticky. He does have to smile quietly at the other question.]

...Yes, I would like that.

You really mean it? [Her voice is obviously excited, she hadn't known that Frey had talked about her to other people. And to think that one of them wants to be her friend!]

Of course. [Even if she doesn't remember, even if she hasn't gone through what would eventually build understanding between them, they're still friends. She's still Kaori. And if a human is trying to get too close...]

Yay! [The journal shakes as she stands up quickly in her excitement, she was so very glad to have another friend here to talk and play with.]

Does that mean we can see each other soon?

[He's still smiling, something he hasn't been able to do in a long while. There's something wistful about it.]

As soon as you'd like. [That would be best, because he can already guess where (with whom) she's staying and he doesn't like it one bit. Besides, he needs the company. Maybe he can't spill his heart to her like this, but her just being there will help.]

How about right now? [Because despite all the interesting monsters and the teenage boys living in the house, things got boring really fast when they wouldn't actively play with her.]

Where are you? I can come to you.

Outside of Frey's house! [You're his friend, she's assuming you know where that is. :|b]

[....a flaw in this plan. But at least she's outside; he would have told her to wait out there anyway, to 1) avoid an unwanted encounter with Frey, and b) pry her away from the human. As long as she stays outside, he'll be able to find her eventually.]

All right, just stay there. I won't be long.

I'll wait for you, Mithos! I promise! [Thus she sits back down outside of the house, quivering with excitement and anticipation.]

[...Good. He can’t help but be concerned by her willingness to wholly trust someone she’s never met – of course, he really is someone she can trust, but others... All the more reason to find her quickly. Twenty minutes pass before she’ll be able to see him approaching from down the street, longer than it should take but not too bad considering he had no idea where to go and had to check house by house.

His eyes land on her and he smiles frailly in relief.]

[Kaori had relocated to the steps of the front porch by the time Mithos gets the, hands folded in her lap and feet tapping together, attempting to be as patient as she could be. Her head snaps up when she hears someone coming down the street, eyes glittering with glee once she spots her friend. However, the feeling begins to dim as she stands up and walks closer, taking note of that smile. Why did he seem so... sad?

Without another word she reaches for his hand and clasps it gently with both of hers, looking up at him with a look in her eyes that clearly asks: What's wrong?]

[He stares down at her. Funny, how even at this age she just seems to know.]

I'm fine... [At least, he wants to be. The answer to her silent question cannot even begin to be shaped with words right now, nor does he particularly want to try. He'd rather just forget; he'd rather not look at it, like all of his problems.] Now that I'm here, I mean.
