['A year ago.' Had it really been that long? Is that why her body was beginning to freeze up in anticipation of the oncoming wave of emotions? She couldn't remember the day, but Freyjadour had done so in her stead without even having to ask. But that was just like him, wasn't it? Especially with some of the more recent talks they have had, where she had come to notice just how much he really did pay attention to her.

And... he wanted to celebrate? That was more than okay, it was more than she had ever expected to receive for what had started as a promise forced on to him. The tears beginning to well up in her eyes, as well as her growing smile was more than enough proof of how much it means to her and that she wanted this.] E'thaji...!

Happy tears, it looked like, but he hadn't expected such a degree of reaction at all, and it takes several failed attempt to respond to her and squash his internal flailing.]

Just the idea of celebrating anything was welcome, given that before coming to this village, such events had hardly existed in her life. There was no time or energy to spend on trying to celebrate something of great emotional weight when everything around you was being taken away.]

I'm glad you feel up to it. I did not want to stress you too much. [He smiles in return, a bit relieved. He had worried she might think it silly, or not feel up to it.]

I'm not stressed at all! [Frey, do you have any idea of how much this has cheered her up already? And they hadn't even done anything yet except talk a little! And this is better than being stuck in bed for another day, it focused her thoughts and efforts on something else other than her unpredictable health.]

No, I understand..... do you want that cake now? I could carry you. [Yes he is serious. He probably could, given her size... But knowing she doesn't feel stressed relieves him of some of that worry.]

... You made a cake? [That sounds very good, and at the same time sort of strange given how rarely she's ever had it. There weren't that many scenarios that would call for such a treat.

But the prospect of being carried makes her blush rather vividly, even if she really may need it given she hasn't stood up much since coming in the day before.] I-I think I'll be fine?

....Your face is red, is the fever coming back? [Maybe this was a bad idea.........]

No, I don't think so. [It better not come back, today at least. It would be okay if it came back tomorrow or when she went to bed, but she did not want her health to ruin today.]

May I at least help you to the kitchen?

[Go ahead and do that Frey, given that she wobbles a little as she pulls away and pushes herself upward into a standing position. Not that she'll even notice these given how there's still some hints of sleep and exhaustion in her.]

Do I really need it...?

[He is just going to take her by the hand then, ready to fully support her if it comes to that. He knows she's reluctant but...]

... 'Kay. [Here is where she'll just stop putting in so much energy into trying to look like she's perfectly healthy and let herself flop against Frey.

[He was ready for this, and easily manages to catch her and keep her steady.

[If Kaori were aware of that last thought, she would have been blushing more than she already was. Instead she stays quiet, leaning against him. Weird, when did he get grow taller again?

Not that it really matters, for now she's just going to trust him absolutely to lead her the distance to the kitchen.]

[He was growing quiet a bit, actually. He might have hit a growth spurt somewhere in the past few months.

And he does- He'll lead her over to the kitchen table, lowering her into a chair when he gets there. The cake is on the table, freshly made today, chocolate frosting on a marble cake with a few strawberries on top.]

[While she may not be able to see the cake, she can certainly smell it. And it smelled delicious and was something that would have taken some effort, to the point that Kaori begins to wonder how she had not noticed him making it. Had she really been that out of it?]

Freyjadour... [There's only the smallest hint of exasperation, that he could be so good to her, but for the most part there's happiness in her voice.]

I hope it's ok... I haven't tried this kind of cake before, but it seemed really good from the recipe.

[There are already two places on the table, as well as a knife that he picks up and begins to cut two slices with.]

I'm sure it'll be fine, you really like cooking don't you? And all the food you make is good. [Which is the honest truth, even though she would still eat whatever he offered her even if it destroyed her tastebuds, albeit with some witty remark.]

...Do you really think so? [He's actually rather pleased to hear that, and his expression, could she have seen it, reflected it. As it is though, his tone probably does as well.]

I only really started cooking when I first came to Luceti, actually... I never had a need to do so myself, before.

I find I've grown to enjoy it, though.

As long as you're enjoying it. [And if it meant more delicious treats for her to try out, that made it all the better!]

Say, Freyjadour? How many things do you get to do here that you didn't do back home?

Quite a few, actually. Back home I'm in such a position that some more casual conduct like cooking or cleaning can be considered unseemly. I dress more casually, as well... and I certainly wouldn't have lived with so many people in closed quarters before the war.

I also have more privacy, without Lyon here.... though I do miss her. She followed me most hours of the day as my bodyguard, back home. [While most would think it to be annoying, his tone rather speaks of her fondly. He was used to such a thing, really.

It had been one of many things he'd had to adjust to, in Luceti. Not having someone constantly nearby to consult or speak to, to share things with.]

[There's almost a protest when he mentions cooking and cleaning being 'unseemly,' even though she knows it to be true even in the culture of her kind, though usually at the insistence of those who the nobles were supposed to be looking out for. Though it didn't have much to do with that, so much that she would like to be able to do those things on her own someday, without having to ask for help.

At least Frey was able to appreciate it, but there was something else he had brought up that was a much more pressing issue.] Really? So is she your girlfriend or something?

[Oh, he doesn't consider it unseemly himself- Others, however, would. Which is the story of his life in some ways.
