[If Kaori were aware of that last thought, she would have been blushing more than she already was. Instead she stays quiet, leaning against him. Weird, when did he get grow taller again?

Not that it really matters, for now she's just going to trust him absolutely to lead her the distance to the kitchen.]

[He was growing quiet a bit, actually. He might have hit a growth spurt somewhere in the past few months.

And he does- He'll lead her over to the kitchen table, lowering her into a chair when he gets there. The cake is on the table, freshly made today, chocolate frosting on a marble cake with a few strawberries on top.]

[While she may not be able to see the cake, she can certainly smell it. And it smelled delicious and was something that would have taken some effort, to the point that Kaori begins to wonder how she had not noticed him making it. Had she really been that out of it?]

Freyjadour... [There's only the smallest hint of exasperation, that he could be so good to her, but for the most part there's happiness in her voice.]

I hope it's ok... I haven't tried this kind of cake before, but it seemed really good from the recipe.

I only really started cooking when I first came to Luceti, actually... I never had a need to do so myself, before.

I find I've grown to enjoy it, though.

Quite a few, actually. Back home I'm in such a position that some more casual conduct like cooking or cleaning can be considered unseemly. I dress more casually, as well... and I certainly wouldn't have lived with so many people in closed quarters before the war.

I also have more privacy, without Lyon here.... though I do miss her. She followed me most hours of the day as my bodyguard, back home. [While most would think it to be annoying, his tone rather speaks of her fondly. He was used to such a thing, really.

Though it didn't have much to do with that, so much that she would like to be able to do those things on her own someday, without having to ask for help.

[She can sense that discomfort loud and clear, and what almost sounds like pleading? So as a favor she will drop it just this once, but before she does there has to be something she has to know first, ignoring the slight annoyance that someone else out there could possibly usurp her duty to protect Frey.]

[Awkward it may be, she's going to bring it up again someday. Just not now because Frey has very generously provided her with a delicious-smelling cake, and it is high time she tried it.

So that she does, and it's pretty obvious by the way her eyes widen and she takes another bite that she's really enjoying the taste. Honestly Frey, you spoil her too much and it's unfair now that she's thinking about it.]

[How is it unfair? He enjoys it- has always enjoyed seeing people happy.... call him silly, but he took enjoyment out of making people smile, and the cake was just as much a 'thank you' as it was a celebration. He'll serve himself a slice, smiling slightly and waiting for her to finish chewing before asking.]

Mm-hmm! [In fact, she'll go ahead and take another bite of it, very much glad that she could taste it properly and that she was feeling better today at all. How long had Frey been planning for this?]

Did anyone ask any weird questions while you were making it?

[A little while, really. It had taken him a bit to find a good cake recipe to try, and while he'd planned to do more..... Well.]

Not really... I made sure to work on it while people were out to make sure it stayed intact. [Because hungry teens. Hungry teens everywhere.]

[Hungry teens in which the majority were male – it made for an interesting experience whenever there were conflicts in the household, which occasionally made her uncomfortable. Not that it really bothered her that much, she sometimes liked the lively energy associated with living with everyone.]

You worked so hard but I didn't make anything... [And she hadn't even remembered, which made it all the more worse.]

....Huh? [He's a tiny bit confused why she's saying something like that, but he has an idea. It really has been a long time.]

It is nothing to worry about. I wanted to. [He liked doing things like this... small, simple things.]

[Even if Frey liked to do these things for people – and it was that kindness that she loved most about him – it did not do much to ease her guilt for it. But she's not going to bring it up more that she has to.]

I wanna do something for you too, Freyjadour... [Because he might not realize it, he's made her life in Luceti so much better with his friendship.]

....You don't have to, but if you want to you can. [He didn't really expect anything of her in response to this, but he wouldn't say she couldn't if she truly wanted to.]

'Kay! [She'll make it her personal project now, and even though her lack of sight will undoubtedly hinder what she can do, she does have determination.]

Actually, if it's March... isn't it almost going to be another year since you've been here?

It will be next month, yes.

[Two years here.... It was hard to imagine, he had been here longer then the entirety of the war that had only just ended.

A lot of time had passed, for him... for everyone.

Except in all that time.. there was something he felt was missing.... What was.....]
